Some Star casino punters have\u00a0had their private details exposed in a massive data breach that saw millions of documents stolen from Australia’s largest legal firm by Russian hackers.<\/p>\n
The Star Entertainment Group, which runs The Star casinos in NSW and Queensland, has told some of its customers their data was leaked in a cyber-attack on HWL Ebsworth Lawyers which took place in April last year.<\/p>\n
Much of the private information, including bank details, passports and physical addresses, ended up on the dark web for three weeks before the legal firm secured an injunction to have it removed.<\/p>\n
It is unclear why it took the casino almost 12 months to warn its customers.\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n The Star Entertainment Group, which runs The Star casinos in NSW and Queensland, has told some of its customers their data has been leaked in a cyber-attack on HWL Ebsworth Lawyers which took place in April last year<\/p>\n Some of the information, including bank details, passports and physical addresses, ended up on the dark web for three weeks before the legal firm secured an injunction to have it removed.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for HWL Ebsworth Lawyers said analysing the stolen data was a\u00a0 ‘detailed<\/a> and complex challenge’.<\/p>\n One irate punter was told his passport, driving licence, tax file number and birth certificate were potentially exposed in the hack.<\/p>\n The casino advised the customer that HWL Ebsworth Lawyers would reimburse him for the cost of replacing his driver’s licence or passport.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘The latest fiasco for Star casino – offering to cover the cost of a replacement licence and passport doesn’t cut it\u2026 hopefully there is a class action<\/a> again the Star that I can join,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a statement, The Star revealed the huge and alarming list of personal information at risk.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n These included physical addresses, phone numbers, employment information, physical signatures, credit card details, Medicare card scans, medical information and bank details.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n One irate punter was told his passport, driving licence, tax file number and birth certificate were potentially exposed in the hack (pictured)<\/p>\n
